MAJOR SPIRITUAL NEEDS
In a recent issue of Fellowship In Prayer, Gallup offered these six predominate spiritual needs of Americans, according to survey responses: 1. People need to believe that life is meaningful and has a purpose. (Many of those surveyed say that the church is boring and irrelevant to their lives.) 2. People need a sense of community and deeper relationships. (As many as a third of those surveyed say they have been “lonely for a long period of time.”) 3. People need to be appreciated and respected. (As many as three out of ten surveyed indicated having a low sense of self worth. Responses indicated that the closer people feel to God, the better they feel about themselves.) 4. People need to be listened to – and be heard. (Recent surveys suggest that many Americans believe that the church’s future will be shaped more by the laity than by clergy. 5. A person needs to feel that he or she is growing…
