SNUFFING OUT THE FEAR
Dr. Roy Honeycutt recalls an incident while teaching about suffering in the book of Job in a church in Arkansas. A woman in the class who was married to a young physician had recovered from a medical problem, but still was haunted by the possibility of recurrence. After a lesson on how to deal with suffering and anxiety, the woman went home and sent two things to Dr. Honeycutt. One was a sliver candle-snuffer; the other was a note. The note read: “Somehow, last week in our study together about suffering, I was able to snuff out my fear so that I am no longer intimidated by the past.”
