IS CHAN GAILEY FOR REAL?
On Thursday, February 12, 1998, Chan Gailey was named as the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Chan was a surprise choice . . . a real dark-horse. He was not a high-profile position. After the announcement, radio and television commentators all across the country began discussing the choic of Gailey to coach Dallas. In Birmingham, Paul Finebaum, a local radio talk show host on WERC AM 960, interviewed Richard Scott, a sportswriter for the Birmingham Post-Herald. This man had been a long-time friend and admirer of Gailey. He has known Gailey from days past when Gailey coached Troy State to a Division II national championship, coached Samford University to a dismal 5-6 record, and coached the Birmingham Fire as part of the World Football League. Most recently, Gailey was offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
