PLEDGED ALLOWANCE
We recently received pledges for a special project which our church wanted to undertake. One grade school age girl made a fifty cent pledge. The morning following the pledge, the girl’s parents were outlining the chores for the week. They told her it was her turn to clean the fishbowl. “No,” she moaned. “Anything but the fishbowl! The fishbowl always smells so bad by the time it needs cleaning!” She went on to say, “You can ask me to do anything else. You can even have my allowance if I don’t clean the fishbowl.” Then she remembered the pledge she made the night before. “No, you can’t have my allowance. I need it to pay my pledge. I will clean the fishbowl.”
