VALUE GURUS
In the April 26 – 28, 1996 issue of USA Weekend, appeared an article by Brenda Turner entitled “Culture Crash.” In this article Turner, a senior associate editor of USA Weekend, identified five “values gurus,” who have emerged as leaders in the national focus on family values. The five individuals Turner has identified are: 1) Dan Quayle, Republican vice president during the George Bush presidency who contends that traditional two-parent families work best. His book of interviews of American families is entitled The American Family. 2) Hillary Clinton, Democratic first lady and children’s activist claims, in her book It Takes a Village: And Other Lessons Children Teach Us believes that it takes the government, churches, the business community, and the media to help parents more effectively raise their children. Government plays a crucial role in seeing this happen. 3) William Bennett, author of The Book of Virtues, The Children’s Book of Virtues, and The Moral Compass, was the former Secretary of Education.…
