JUDAS CHOSE MONEY
Why did Judas betray Jesus. Several potential reasons given. Speculation on his background and where he came from. John insists that it was monetary greed which finally overwhelmed Judas. Incensed by the waste of a year’s wages, (Mary annointing Jesus) he went and sold Jesus for barely a third that amount. Everybody has a price, the cynic asserts. Judas was not exceptional. Jesus had said that it is impossible to serve God and money. Judas chose money. Many others have done the same. From The Cross of Christ, by John Stott, pp. 56-58
