WE NEED A BRIDGE
Trying to work out our own salvation is as ridiculous as trying to jump across the Grand Canyon on a motorcycle – can’t be done. Some years ago Evil Knievel, a well known daredevil tried that. With good press coverage and a lot of fanfare, he tried to jump across the Grand Canyon on a motorcycle. He had a long ramp built, set the engine full speed ahead, took a flying leap toward the other side. He never made it, he was badly hurt as he fell to the canyon floor, by God’s grace he wasn’t killed. It was a foolish and impossible thing to do. As one spectator said, “The only way for him to get that motorcycle across was to build a bridge.” It’s just as foolish and impossible for us to try and leap from here to eternity on our own, we too need a bridge. Of course, Jesus is that bridge, it’s a toll bridge but…
