“As they were leading Him away they seized on a man, Simon from Cyrene…and made him shoulder the Cross and carry it behind Jesus” (Luke 23:26).

Many years ago, “New Yorker” magazine ran an article about the Hollywood film of the life of Christ called “The King of Kings.” The writer warned parents who took their children to see the film to prepare for an outburst when Simon of Cyrene dashed out to help Jesus carry the Cross. The reason children could be expected to jump out of their seats and cheer is that the role of Simon of Cyrene was played by none other than the actor whom millions of kids recognized as the hero-cowboy Hopalong Cassidy.
