TINSEL ON THE TRACK
This poem expresses well the need to look first to ourselves when we discover our prayers are ineffective. It’s called “Tinsel on the Track.” Once I bought my son an engine that would circle round and round;
For I knew he would be so happy, when the electric train he found;
Like a boy myself I sat there, underneath the Christmas tree;
All my dignity forgotten as I watched with childish glee;
Then it stopped! I tried to mend it, turned it here, punched it there;
But my knowledge of mechanics found no trouble anywhere;
I was disappointed sorely, as I knew my boy would be;
And then I spied a glittering something, that had fallen from the tree;
Surely that wee bit of tinsel on the rail would no harm have done;
But I brushed it off and presto, how the train began to run!
