IGNORANCE IS BLISS
Shortly before his death, former Chief Justice Melville W. Fuller was presiding at a church conference. During the heated debate, a delegate rose and began a tirade against universities and education, giving thanks to God that he had not been corrupted by any contact with any college. “Do I understand the speaker to be thanking God for his ignorance?” interrupted Chief Justice Fuller. “Well, yes, if you want to put it that way,” the man answered. “All I have to say then,” responded the Chief Justice, “is that you have a great deal to be thankful for.”
