ANSWERED PRAYERS
The pastor of a rural church had held forth in that parish longer than his welcome endured. Frequent discussions concerning his moving to another parish had been futile. The situation grew steadily more embarrassing until one Sunday morning he announced from the pulpit that over a long period of time he had consulted with Jesus, earnestly praying that some other parish would welcome his services. Well, he said, Jesus had answered his prayers, and he was leaving at the end of the month. Now, he continued, he would like for them to stand and sing one of their favorite hymns. The congregation promptly arose and sang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” From The Saturday Evening Post, by James L. Creasy
