PRAYER
In the United States of America, we associate the National Aeronautics and Space Administration with “state of the art” technology. However, during a news conference from the space shuttle in 1984, a recorded message interrupted radio transmissions between the astronauts in space and reporters on earth. It said: “Please hang up and try again. If you need help, hang up and then dial your operator.” For the Christian, prayer is the “state of the art” method of conversing with God. Conversation implies the warm intimacies of a relationship quite unlike the cold sterility of high tech. Prayer is both more personal and more demanding than our most modern communications systems. First, we respond to God’s overtures of love by repentance and confession. This is our first act in establishing a continuing relationship with Him.
