Robert Hastings told a story of a preacher friend returning from an out-of-town meeting. The preacher stopped in a small Georgia town to spend the night. After checking into a motel, he went across the street to a diner. The waitress was the daughter of the owner. While serving the preacher his meal, she accidentally spilled mashed potatoes and gravy on the floor. The busboy made a half- hearted effort to clean it up but left the floor slippery. When the waitress returned with coffee, she slipped and spilled the whole cup on the preacher. The poor waitress burst into tears and ran into the kitchen. The owner came out to make apologies. Instead of exploding in anger, the preacher left the girl a tip and a note of understanding.
