HOPELESS PRAYER
The church was faced with a crisis. The church moderator opened the meeting with prayer. He prayed, “Oh mighty and eternal God. Your grace is sufficient for all that we do.” The moderator finished his prayer and began the meeting with these words: “Friends, the situation facing us is hopeless; there is nothing we can do.” There is a logical inconsistency. Either his prayer consisted of meaningless words, or his analysis of the church’s situation was untrue. It has been said that there are no hopeless situations; there are only those who have become hopeless about their situations. Adapted from a submission by Brian Moulton, Country Bible Church, Bennnet, Nebraska
