Endurance | Love | Sunday School

“You will need endurance to do God’s will and gain what He has promised ” (Hebrews 10:36).

Around the turn of the century, a woman in America’s rural “Deep South,” became well-known in her area as a powerful and effective Sunday School teacher. Her manner of speaking was laced with colorful, “backwoods” phrases on which she placed special emphasis when making an important point. She ended every lecture by quoting the Apostle Paul and the Lord Jesus on the meaning of love:

Always patient… always kind… never boastful… never rude… always ready to excuse…to trust… forgive, forgive, forgive… love your enemies… pray for your persecutors… have compassion.

Then, after a long pause, she would say, in total sincerity, “It ain’t easy, honey!”
