Enterprise | Inflation | Money

“The love of money is the root of all evils” (I Tim. 6:10).

There was a pretzel stand in front of a big office building in New York City. “PRETZELS 25 CENTS,” read the sign. One day, a man came out of the building and saw a look of pain and frustration in the face of the old woman behind the pretzel stand. Whereupon, he plunked down a quarter, and then went on his way without taking a pretzel. That happened every day for weeks. Finally, the old woman running the stand spoke up and said, “Sir, excuse me. May I have a word with you?” The man replied, “I know. I know. You’re going to ask me why I give you a quarter every day and don’t take a pretzel.” “Not at all,” the woman replied. “I just wanted to tell you that the price is now 35 CENTS.”
