EISENHOWER’S FAULT
A most stirring example of personal responsibility has recently come to light. The National Archives has put on display a note that General Dwight Eisenhower wrote and put in his wallet on June 5, 1944. This was the statement that he would have made if the European invasion at Normandy the next day had been thwarted: “Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air and navy did all that bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt, it is mine alone!” Keep this in mind as you go about your daily business. From Paul J.
