IS KOBE BRYANT HAPPY?
Kobe Bryant is the twenty-year-old basketball superstar on the Los Angeles Lakers. Newsweek profiled him on May 31, 1999, saying he is a $70 million man, heir apparent to Michael Jordan, living the modern American dream on the NBA’s glamour team. His skills make him the envy of teenage boys, and his good looks make him the desire of teenage girls. He’s young, talented and rich, but is he happy? When asked that question, he shrugs and says, “I guess, maybe. Not really.” In spite of all Bryant has going for him, he does not have a single close friend anywhere in the city, has endured lots of criticism from his teammates, and has a history of being an outcast. His story reminds us that money, a great career or fame has never once made anyone happy. By Brett Kays, Southpoint Community Christian Church, Woodhaven, Michigan
