My daughters who live nearby,
look after me with eagle eye.
”Dad, go to bed, you need more sleep.
Don’t eat so much, the food will keep.
Why don’t you take a walk—you should!
The exercise will do you good.
”Be active, like the doctor said.
It’s bad to only sit instead.
Take a trip or a long vacation.
And don’t forget your medication.”
They check when I am home alone
or criticize, “Why don’t you phone?”
They worry when I’m on a trip
that i might fall and break a hip.
When they were kids it was my goal
to fill their needs, body and soul.
That situation, unrehearsed,
now seems to have become reversed!
Schoeder, R. A. “Unrehearsed Reversal.” (Adapted).
