Freedom

“… if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).

“When Christ freed us He meant us to remain free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery” (Gal. 5:1).

I used to complain a lot. I was frustrated and full of unrealized dreams. Worse, I blamed others for my failures. But all that began to change through my landlord’s dog, of all things.

That puppy was shamefully neglected, left tied outside, crying day and night. One day, however, I saw the animal loose in the backyard. His chain had somehow broken, and he was just lollygagging around. “He gets an opportunity for freedom and doesn’t take it. Then he doesn’t deserve it,” I thought. And I despised him. Instantly a voice, so distinct that it seemed audible, spoke to me: “You’re looking at yourself.” I was dumbstruck, but it was true – I was just like the dog. With all my whining, I’d done…
