A recent issue of LIFE magazine posed the question, “Who is God?” The editors interviewed people of all faiths, worldwide, and found most of them eager to talk about God. Among those interviewed were a housemaid in Beirut, a street criminal in Colombia, a rabbi, a Church organist, a man dying of aids, and even one of life’s own writers.
Cody Faircloth and his wife Martha Nell raise cattle and hogs on their farm in Florida. This is Cody’s response to the question, “Who is God?”:
If somebody wants God, all they’ve got to do is look. He’s all around. That don’t mean He’s busy shoveling out the goods when you ask for them, but God watches over us, all right. He allows us the privilege of raising 40 head of cattle a year. God lets us grow vegetables. You can see God in a butter bean patch.
