Jesus said to the disciples: “I came to cast fire on the earth; and would that it were already kindled!”
(Luke 12:49).
The famous author, Somerset Maugham, received a batch of short stories submitted by an aspiring writer inviting critical review. The new author included a short note which read:
Dear Somerset Maugham:
Do you think I should put more fire into my stories?
Signed Miss A.O.
The noted author wrote back simply:
Dear Miss A.O.:
No. I think you should put more stories into the fire.
Jesus’ burning desire was to reveal the incredible depth of God’s Love for us. And that’s no “story” to be cast into the fire. That’s the Gospel truth!
