Some people feel greatly honored when they are given a place at the dinner table where the finest china and the costliest linen are set. But the people who are really honored are the ones whose places at the table have been set with dishes that don’t match and paper napkins. These are the tried and true and trusted friends who have no need to be impressed — and would never think of criticizing. These are the most honored guests!
“When you are invited by any one to a marriage feast … go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher’; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you” (Luke 14:8,10).
