Liturgy | Listening

“…praying in the Holy Spirit” (Jude 1:20).

A bishop was presiding over the liturgy in a large cathedral. He sensed that the microphone wasn’t working properly, and he was ready to begin the traditional “The Lord be with you,” to which the congregation would respond, “And with your spirit.” He tapped the mike several times, but heard nothing. Then, as he began to speak into what he thought was a dead instrument, the little wires clicked into position and his words echoed through the huge sanctuary: “There’s something wrong with this blasted microphone.” And the people responded, “And with your spirit.”
