“Give, and there will be gifts for you” (Luke 6:38).

Several years ago, one of America’s greatest musicians, Leonard Bernstein, died. In 1988, as he was turning seventy, a New York Times Editor asked him to write an article. Bernstein agreed. But instead of an article, he submitted a poem to the New York Times. Here is a portion of it:

…. When I die, I pray there may be heard, An all-embracing, brave, four letter word.

I blush to name, so oft do we abuse it.
But let the letters speak; and bye-and-bye, We may no longer hesitate to use it.

Then he spelled out the four letter word — L-O-V-E — and concluded with these lines:

… You can take the four letter word, and make it live;
By learning to give, to give, to give, to give, to give.
