Mother

The following true account was quoted in the Shreveport, LA Times:
My 81-year-old mother is proud of the fact that she doesn’t look her age. One summer day she went into a drugstore and, talking about the heat, said to the clerk, “Going to be ninety-seven today.”

The man reached across the counter, shook her hand and said, “Happy birthday.” Mother took to her bed for a week.
