“Lord, teach us to pray…” (Luke 11:1).
It was Sunday evening, and the sexton came to lock the church. When he entered, he saw that three persons were still there. All three were on their knees, their heads bowed and their eyes closed. The sexton approached the first person and asked, “Are you praying?” “Oh yes,” came the reply, ”I most certainly am praying.” He then asked the second person, ”Are you praying?” “Of course I’m praying,” came the reply. Then he asked the third person, “Are you praying?” No answer. “Are you praying,” he asked in a louder voice. Still no answer. “Thank you very much,” said the sexton. “You are praying.”
