There was a woman who lived all of her life in the Deep South. The Southland was for her the Universe just as Boston is the center of the Universe for many New Englanders. This woman truly loved the South. One day, she had her nieces and nephews gathered around her, and she was explaining to them all of the good things about Southern culture and Southern life. One of the nephews asked, “Auntie, do you believe that all of the real values and virtues of life originated in the South?” She said, “Well, maybe not all of them, but certainly most of them.” Then, teasing her, the nephew asked, “Do you believe that Jesus Christ was a Southerner?” Without a moment’s hesitation she replied, “He was good enough to be a Southerner!”
