Uncle George, Aunt Sara and Mrs. Wood were sitting on the porch one summer afternoon. The two women began carrying on a long conversation, trying to impress each other with how religious they were. “I haven’t missed going to Church on Sunday for forty years,” said one. “Every night since I was a little girl I’ve gotten down on my knees to pray before I go to sleep,” said the other. “I’ve taught Sunday School … I’ve always been a generous contributor to the Church … I read the Bible every day without fail …” They droned on and on until, finally, Aunt Sara turned to Uncle George and said, “We both know that Mrs. Wood is a good religious person, but don’t you think I live a little closer to the Lord?” To which uncle George replied: “I don’t think either of you are crowding Him any.”
