God had called the People of Israel to be a “Chosen People,” not in the sense of privilege but in the sense of responsibility. It all started when God said to Abraham, “All the communities of the earth shall find blessing in you” (Gen.12:3). But Israel did not hear, Israel did not accept, Israel became self-centered, Israel rejoiced in what it meant to be a Chosen People only as far as her own life was concerned.
