“Silent night, holy night. Peace on earth to men of goodwill.” Yet behind that seemingly peaceful cradle scene the Cross already was casting its shadow across the innocent features of the Child Jesus. What a strange peace is this Peace of Christ. Hardly is He born and the tyrants of the world seek His death. “Rise … and flee to Egypt … for Herod is about to search for the Child, to destroy Him.” Having heard these words, spoken to him in a dream by an Angel of God, a confused Joseph flees with his family from Herod’s slaughter of the innocents in Bethlehem.

“May the Peace of Christ reign in your hearts.” Do not let the peace of complacency rule in your hearts; nor the peace of nostalgia for a former time. Let the Peace of Christ rule in your hearts. What is this Peace of Christ? Think about it for a moment and you will see that the life of Christ was…
