In today’s Gospel Lesson we read of Jesus’ encounter with ten lepers who come to meet Him as He travels along the border between Samaria and Galilee. They call out: “Jesus! Master! Take pity on us!” (Lk. 17:13). Jesus responds with compassion, by curing all ten, but only one — a Samaritan — finds time to give thanks to Him. Jesus asks, “The other nine, where are they? It seems no one has come back to give praise to God, except this foreigner” (Lk. 17:18). Then, turning to the grateful Samaritan, He says, “Stand up and go on your way. Your faith has saved you” (Lk. 17:19).
