Most good novels are not written in pell-mell fashion — off the top of one’s head. Most mystery writers will tell you that the necessary first step in getting the story on paper is to work out the punch ending. The author cannot begin to develop the story’s chain of events until it is first determined what they are leading up to. When that problem is solved, the author is ready to deal with the events that will occur along the way. And “that,” as the saying goes, “is the story of our lives.”
As Jesus’ followers, we do not merely exist in pell-mell fashion. As Jesus’ followers, we know where we’re going with our lives.
