Once upon a time there lived a village leader who had three sons. Each son was blessed with his own special talent. One was an expert at raising sheep. The second was an expert at raising olive trees. The third son was an expert dancer.
It so happened that the father had to go on a long journey. Before leaving, he reminded his sons that, in his absence, the villagers would be depending on them. “Each of you,” he said, “has a special talent for filling people’s needs. Therefore, during my absence, I want you to use your talents wisely. And when I return, I hope to find the village even happier and more prosperous than it is now.”
Things went well in the village for a while. But then the cold winter winds blew harder than usual and the snow piled up much deeper than usual, and soon the villagers ran out of fuel. And they wanted to cut down the olive…
