A prominent psychiatrist1 has written a book called “For the Love of Money” which really unmasks us all. He helps us to understand how important money has become to us and how we are motivated by it. And he makes a case for us to be honest about it and just come right out and say that money is our god. Many of us build a wall around this part of our lives. As Church people we try to get our lives lined up and in harmony with our religious beliefs, but we say to God, “Stay out of my stocks and bonds, stay out of my savings account, stay out of my vacation nest-egg and my children’s education money — just stay out of here.” I recommend that book to anyone who is willing to be reminded that the rest of life isn’t going to fit into place until you break down that wall and say to God, “Okay, even my money.”
