Our true value as human persons is made abundantly clear in the life and teachings of Jesus. Moreover, our true value is not of our own making. We “are somebody” only by the Will of the Loving Creator who brings us into being. Life’s supreme achievement is to discover our true identity as children of God, made in His image, made to image Him, and as objects of His loving concern.

Jesus is present in our midst to confirm our worthwhileness and purposefulness as God’s beloved children. Jesus came to make this known to us, to teach us all we need to know about who we are and why we are. And so, in today’s Gospel Lesson, Jesus tells us …

It is written in the prophets,
“They all will be taught by God,”
and to hear the teaching of the Father,
and learn from it,

is to come to Me (Jn. 6:45).
