It is often difficult to find words to describe the deep experiences of our common humanity. For example, who of us could ever find words to describe what it is like when God comes to us in Jesus Christ. There are no words that can truly grasp the wonder, the power, the strength of that life-transforming experience. Consequently, we resort to symbols and images and poetic ways of expression. In the Scriptures there is a recurring theme which says that the coming of God in Jesus Christ is like the coming of the dawn.
Think for a moment of especially beautiful sunrises you have seen, and you can begin to understand how a person who doesn’t have the words to express what Christ’s coming has meant will resort to this image:
He dawns on us like the morning light, like the sun shining forth upon a cloudless morning (2 Sam. 23:04).
