There is a Peanuts cartoon in which Little Lucy asks, “You know what your trouble is Charlie Brown?” Then she answers her own question: “The whole trouble with you is you don’t understand the meaning of life!” Whereupon, Charlie Brown looks straight at Lucy and asks, “Do you understand the meaning of life?” Lucy answers, “We’re not talking about me, we’re talking about you.”
In today’s Gospel Lesson, as in all Gospel Lessons, we receive glimpses, large and small, into the meaning of life. And through His life and teachings about who we are and what we ought to do about it, Jesus is talking about you and me, and about our God-given responsibility to deliver the Message of our Master Teacher. We are His surrogate teachers — all of us!
