What are we looking for? That is the question! Today’s Gospel episode begins on the morning of the first Easter Sunday. Mary Magdalene comes to Jesus’ tomb. What is she looking for? Then one of the disciples hurries to the tomb. What is he looking for? He is followed by the Apostle Peter. What is Peter looking for? As the first Sunday after the first Good Friday dawned, Mary Magdalene, Peter and the other disciple-the three who came to the tomb-were desperate people. One week earlier, when the Master triumphantly paraded into Jerusalem, their spirits had soared. Their hope in Jesus’ promise of fulfillment-individually and as a People-was never higher. Then quickly came Calvary, shattering the dream, reducing their high expectations to zero. And they were desperate.
