God’s Presence in the mainstream of human existence is discovered in the ordinary people of our daily encounters. And often it is the case that there are no people who seem so ordinary as the members of our own families. It has been said that “familiarity breeds contempt,” and that is true very often. At least it is true for those who do not search for the new in the ordinary.
Discover the new in the ordinary! This Gospel secret is the discovery of those husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, parents and children, friends and neighbors who continue to grow together. When we see marriages and friendships that never seem to grow stale, we recognize the beauty of it. Unfortunately, we are also struck by the rarity of it.
