Sermon Week/Year

Second Sunday of Advent, A

The first sound of Advent is not the jingle of bells or the rustle of wrapping paper—it is a voice. A voice crying out in the wilderness, cutting through the noise of empires and markets and endless plans. It is John’s voice, rough as the desert wind, telling us that God is on the move and that something must change to make room for His coming.

Every generation must decide whether it will hear the voice crying in the wilderness or the echo of its own comfort. Advent arrives as that decision point. It is not sentimental; it is searching. It does not whisper of what we already have, but of what is trying to be born among us. The world, John says, is too cluttered with its own noise. The valleys must be lifted, the hills brought low, and the crooked paths made straight. In every age, God sends a voice to wake us—and ours, too, is a season of awakening.
