In today’s Gospel Lesson, Jesus goes into the synagogue on the Sabbath Day, as usual. There He reads from the scroll of the Prophet Isaiah:
“The Spirit of the Lord has been given to Me, for He has anointed Me … to set the downtrodden free. This text is being fulfilled today, even as you listen” (Lk. 4:18,21).
Today, right now, even as you listen, if you’re feeling mighty low, if you’re feeling trapped in your life situation, if you’re feeling that life isn’t fair, if you’re in a state of terrible grief, if you’re feeling lonely or abandoned or rejected or betrayed — in other words, if you’re feeling like one of the downtrodden (as we all do from time-to-time) — Jesus Christ, the Anointed One, wants to set you free.
