Can you remember a time when you were not bombarded by experts offering advice — from best-selling books, daytime television panels, cable news programs, infomercials, magazines, billboards, and perhaps worst of all, those annoying pop-up ads on web sites? Sometimes it seems there are more so-called experts than there are average citizens. From a wide variety of sources, some authoritative, others not so, we endure the constant cacophony of self-help tips, advice, pointers, recommendations, prescriptions, coaching, pontificating and direction to help us achieve certain goals in life: From financial goals, to career goals, to psychological goals, to health goals, to leisure-time goals, to retirement goals, to getting more possessions goals — and the list goes on! At the bottom of it all is the promise that, if we follow the expert’s roadmap, we will somehow arrive at that ultimate destination: happiness. In the words of the beloved philosopher, Dr. Seuss…
