ìHeaven and earth will pass away, but My Words will not pass awayî (Mark 13:31).
On one of San Franciscoís streets there is a store-front funeral parlor with some beige-colored curtains covering the windows. In front of the curtains there is a sign which reads, ìWhy walk around half dead when we can bury you for three hundred dollars.î That is a sharp piece of advertising, because a lot of people we meet these days seem ready to take them up on the offer. But there is a better way to ask the question. And the Biblical writers, each in his own way, ask us again and again: ìWhy do you walk around half dead when there is a way of replenishing your strength?î You see, part of the Good News of the Bible is that God didnít just create us and then abandon us. The God who created us is always with us, always empowering us to do what needs to be done.
