Some of you will remember the late stand-up comic Henny Youngman who was famous for his delivery of one-liners. As the story goes, Youngman was celebrating his ninety-first birthday when asked: “To what do you attribute your longevity?” Without missing a beat, the comic replied, “Breathing!”
Preacher Robert Schuller tells similar story of a ninety-eight-year-old man whom he calls “one of the most inspiring men I have ever met.”
What a chipper old fellow he is! He works six days a week operating America’s last hand-hewn copper-kettle factory. I asked my friend, “How long are you going to live?” Smiling, he said, “Oh, I’m planning to live to one hundred!” “Wow!” I exclaimed, “How can I live to be one hundred?” “Very simple,” he replied, “anybody can live to be one hundred. All you have to do is live to be ninety-nine — and then be very careful!”
