C. S. Lewis once wrote, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen — not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” Faith, for Lewis, was not blind assent but illumination — the light by which life itself becomes intelligible. And he pressed further: “Look for Christ and you will find Him. And with Him, everything else.” Faith is not the end of the search, but the beginning of a larger vision, a way of perceiving the world with Christ at its center.
In today’s Gospel Lesson, the apostles say to the Lord, “Increase our faith” (Lk. 17:5). Their request is not abstract philosophy; it is the cry of disciples who sense both the promise and the peril of following Him. They understand, however dimly, that faith is the lens by which everything else comes into focus — and they long for more of it.
