A famous comedian -1 celebrated his ninety-first birthday at a party attended by a large group of relatives, friends and news reporters. During an interview, the first question asked was “Why do you think you have lived to such a wonderful old age?” Without missing a beat, the comedian replied, “Breathing!”
Some people don’t want to get old. Some people don’t want to die. But you’ve got to do one or the other.
Some people want to worship the one true God. Some people want to worship false gods. So whether you realize it or not, you’ve got to do one or the other.
“We are creating a lot of false idols. It troubles me about our society,” wrote a journalist. “There have been cultures,” he said, “and perhaps there still are somewhere in the world, in which philosophers and poets and great teachers are the stars of their civilization. Look at who the stars of our civilization are.”
