In the early days of World War II, it was feared by many that England was in imminent danger of being invaded by Hitler’s armies. It was then that Winston Churchill rallied the people of Great Britain with these memorable words:
“We shall fight them on the beaches, we shall fight them in the fields and in the streets. We shall fight them in the hills.” When asked to comment on these words, one high school student said, “It sounds just like our family vacation.”
For some of us here today summer’s family vacation time has come and gone. For others it is yet to come. But for all of us there is much to be said about the need for a time of rest and relaxation. Indeed, when we take time out for rest and relaxation we are being very Biblical, very Godlike.
From time-to-time our sagging spirits and our spinning heads and our tired bones all need to be refreshed, relaxed and renewed.
