A grandmother was constantly trying to improve her little granddaughter’s vocabulary. She taught her some new words to use, and she also gave her advice on what words not to use. On one occasion, grandmother said, “My dear, I want you to do something for me. Would you promise not to use two words? One is cool, and the other is dorky.” “Sure granny,” said the little girl, “what are the two words?” It isn’t likely that “granny” will be remembered as one of the world’s great teachers.

In a book entitled “The Teacher,” the author declares: “To a child thrust into a strange world, a good teacher is the best thing that can possibly happen.” For example…
