Mount Rushmore, located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, is famous for the gigantic sculptures of four past United States Presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. Each head measures sixty feet in height, and the entire structure, which took fourteen years to complete, rises 6,375 feet above the ground. When the sculptor, Gutzon Borglum, was asked how he did it, he replied with a glint in his eye: “Well, those figures were there for 40 million years. All I had to do was dynamite 400,000 tons of granite to bring them into view.”
You — a child of God — were there in the mind of God, not for 40 million years but for all eternity. Rushmore stands as a national memorial. That is the reason for its creation. The reason for your creation? The Holy Gospels have given you an explosive answer to that question.
